85-yr old Rivers Commissioner’s mother kidnapped

Eighty-five year old mother of the Rivers state Commissioner of Information and Communications, Patience Tam-George has been kidnapped in Okrika.

The Commissioner, Dr Austin Tam-George who confirmed the incident, said his mother was whisked away by unknown gun men at George Ama area of the ancient Okrika town while on her way back from church on Saturday evening.

He said the kidnappers contacted an uncle with the aged mother’s phone demanding for N30 million ransom, adding that they also allegedly condemned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state for lashing at their action.

“They have made contact with the family using her phone demanding N30 million for her release. They condemned the PDP for “challenging ” them. Her name is Patience Tam-George, she is 85 years ,” he said.

He pleaded for the release of her mother, stating that he was outside the state on an official assignment when he heard of the kidnap.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad said the Police was aware of kidnap of a lady in the area but was not sure if she was the mother of the commissioner of Information, adding that effort was on to rescue the person kidnapped.
