Crisis broke out in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly on Monday morning, culminating in the impeachment of the Speaker, Chukwuma Nwazunku.
What triggered the crisis in the Assembly was not immediately known, but Nwazunku was removed from office by 18 out of the 24 members of the House and was hurriedly replaced by Helen Nwaobasi, a member representing Abakaliki South constituency.
Nwaobasi’s election followed a motion moved by Eni Udoma and seconded by Jerry Obasi.
The lawmakers had first lifted the suspension slammed on three of their colleagues, including the deputy speaker, Blaise Orji, before going ahead to impeach the Speaker.
The other members whose suspension was lifted are Chima and Frank Onwe.
The motion for the impeachment of Nwazunku was subsequently moved Chris Usulor and seconded by the Minority Leader, Enyi Enyi.
