There was seeming drama on Friday during proceedings at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, as two of the three witnesses called by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, opted for cutlasses for oath-taking, abandoning the Bible or Quoran.
The two witnesses were Adeeso Abiodun and Akinyemi Oluwanifemi. Meanwhile, the third witness turned out to be the biological son of the PDP senatorial women leader in the State.
Also, the three witnesses, to the dismay of many at the Tribunal gave the same statements, word for word, as they all came from Sagamu, in the East Senatorial district of the State.
At first, arguments ensued as some people expressed reservations about the development, even as counsels to respondents insisted that those witnesses must say the oath correctly by invoking the spirit behind the object, known as Ogun, the Yoruba god of iron.
After much arguments, the Tribunal eventually allowed the witnesses to take their oath using their choice of object for oath-taking.
