Danasabe was said to have died early Friday morning at a hospital in Lokoja, the Kogi capital city.

He reportedly slumped at his residence and was subsequently rushed to a medical facility.

The incident occurred less than 24 hours before the governorship election in the north-central state.

In a statement shared with NewMailNG, Talba Lakwaja, Lokoja LG APC public relations officer (PRO), said Danasabe was buried at Anguwan Kura burial ground after jummat prayer on Friday.

“The body will depart his family house at cantonment to Lokoja central mosque 1:30pm. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him aljanah fidaurs. Ameen,” the statement reads.

Kogi elects a new governor on November 11 with Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), battling to succeed Yahaya Bello who was re-elected in 2019.

The atmosphere in the state is calm, with security operatives patrolling the capital city.
