Former Accountant General and permanent secretary, ministry of Finance, Akinwunmi Ambode was in the early hour of Friday announced as the winner of the All Progressives, APC, governorship primary for Lagos.
Ambode polled 3, 735 to defeat his closest rival, Toyin Hamzat who polled 1201 votes in a keenly contested primary.
Senator Ganiyu Solomon polled 272 votes to come a distant third while the incumbent Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Sabit Ikuforiji polled 182 votes to come fourth.
While announcing the final result at about 8.25 Friday morning, leader of the primary said that 5,959 delegates was accredited, 5,815 voted, 91 votes invalidated.
The leader of the primaries organizing committee said his committee was highly impressed with the level of progressive political awareness displayed by politicians in Lagos and expressed optimism that APC will redefine the scope of partisan politics in the country.
“By what we saw at the party secretariat, cooperation of the entire party to ensure we have a transparent primary, I am deeply impressed.
“You saw the way we carried out our job, we tried to be fair and transparent to all, the aspirants demonstrated a very high level of maturity and decorum and all these give us the hope that the future of Nigeria is very bright.
