The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited says the reported explosion at a filling station in Ikeja has nothing to do with the recently commissioned NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd (NGML)-NIPCO compressed natural gas (CNG) stations.

In a statement on Thursday, the NNPC said the stations are currently operating risk-free.

Earlier Thursday, a filling station belonging to Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc, located at the Obafemi Awolowo Road in the Ikeja axis of Lagos, was gutted by fire.

Margaret Adeseye, director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire incident started when a gas tanker exploded while discharging contents to the storage tanks.

Speaking on the incident, Femi Soneye said the facilities at the stations were not affected.
