The Nigeria Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (NATCA) has shelved its planned strike, which was scheduled to begin on Monday.

Banji Olawode, the National Secretary of the association, who made this known in Lagos, said that the strike was suspended following an agreement the association reached with the management of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) on the welfare of its members.

The association had on Friday announced its decision to begin an indefinite strike on Monday over alleged insensitivity by NAMA to its members’ welfare.

He said that the agreement was reached in the early hours on Monday.

“An agreement has been reached and signed by the two parties after hours of deliberations. Therefore, the planned industrial action has been suspended,” the secretary said.

He said that the association had, in recent times, been agitating for a better welfare package for its members as well as recruitment of more technical manpower.
