In commemoration of the 2024 World Teachers Day, the Ogun and Osun States have declared today, Monday the 7th of October, 2024 as a work-free day for all teachers in both public and private schools throughout the state.
Abiodun made this disclosure on Saturday during the celebration held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the state capital.
Following hos declaration, schools within the state are expected to resume academic activities on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Ogun State chapter, in a notice shared with its members on Sunday, reminded them about the holiday as declared by the governor.
The statement reads, “This is to inform you that the Ogun State Government has declared Monday, October 7, 2024, as a teachers’ holiday. In line with this directive, all schools are expected to observe the holiday.
“Therefore, academic activities are suspended tomorrow. School resumes on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, as previously planned.”
A press statement issued by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi to that effect indicated that the holiday is with a view to identifying with all teachers throughout the state on the annual occasion in view of their invaluable contributions to the growth of education sector, not only in Osun and Nigeria but the world at large.
The Governor’s message on the occasion of this year’s World Teachers Day as issued to the pressmen by Oluomo Alimi reads in part; “I, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun state heartily congratulate all teachers throughout the world and in particular in my dear state, Osun on the annual occasion of World Teachers Day is celebrated annually on every 5th of October.
“While it gladdens my heart and that of my administration to declare tomorrow as a public holiday throughout Osun state, I admonish all teachers to use the one-day public holiday as a means to cast a look at the past, present and future development of the state in the education sector.
“I am using this opportunity for the umpteenth time to assure you that my administration will continue to do everything morally and officially possible to put smiles on your faces in order to make you happy and fulfilled as purveyors of knowledge in this dear state of ours, Osun.
“Please accept my best wishes and congratulations on the occasion of the World Teachers Day. Happy celebrations” ended Governor Adeleke’s message to the teachers of both public and private schools in Osun State.
