Police rescue six sports journalists abducted while travelling to Uyo for AFCON qualifier

The police command in Anambra says its operatives have rescued six sports journalists who were abducted at Isseke-Orlu road in the Ihiala area of the state.

The police command in Anambra says its operatives have rescued six sports journalists who were abducted at Isseke-Orlu road in the Ihiala area of the state.

The journalists were heading to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital, from Lagos to cover the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Nigeria and Libya.

In a statement on Thursday, Tochukwu Ikenga, Anambra police spokesperson, said there are ongoing operations to rescue the seventh member of the media crew.

“Joint security forces have successfully rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Uyo along Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala. Meanwhile, operations are still ongoing for the possible rescue of the seventh crew member.”

Nigeria will play the Mediterranean Knights of Libya on Friday evening at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
