Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, on Monday defected to the All Progressives Congress with thousands of her supporters in Irewole, Ayedaade and Isokan Federal Constituency in Osun State.
Etteh, at a rally led by the Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, to the federal constituency to drum up support for the candidates of the APC in this month’s elections, noted that her coming to the party was long overdue.
Etteh told the huge crowd that she decided to join the APC because of the party’s progressive policies and the love for the masses, stressing that her decision was to join the progressives so that she will be able to contribute her quota to the development of the people.
She commended Governor Aregbesola for the positive changes he has brought to the state in the past four and a half years, noting that the transformation of the state under the APC was glaring for all to see.
Aregbesola, while admitting the former Speaker and her supporters in Ikoyi, Apomu, Ikire, Araromi Owu, Orile Owu and Gbongan, enjoined voters in the local government areas and the whole state to vote for all the candidates of APC across board.
Aregbesola emphasised that the victory of August 9 governorship election in the state would be boosted with the party securing all the seats available both in upper, lower and the state legislative chambers.
He pointed out that change can only come when the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, comes to power by May 29 this year.
The governor held that the much needed change that Nigerians are clamouring for can only be achieved when a progressive party like the APC is in power.
“February 14 and 28 elections are significant for the change that Nigerians have been clamouring for. We need not say much. Our good work has been speaking for us. We plan do more than what we have done in the last four years. We can only do more with your support by voting all our party members in the forthcoming elections.
“I also want to use this opportunity to thank you for standing behind us during the last August 9 governorship election. We are here again to ask for your votes for our presidential candidate and every other candidate in your federal constituency. We must show to the world that Osun is completely APC.”
Aregbesola noted that for 16 “odd years” under the Peoples Democratic Party, Nigeria has not gained anything meaningful and enduring.
