The Action Group of the All Progressives Congress (APC-AG) has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to put an end to the fascist regime of Governor Ayodele Fayose in order for peace and the rule of law to reign in Ekiti State.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Segun Dipe, the group said the action of Ekiti State Governor is getting more and more embarrassing and may force members of the opposition in the state to resort to self-help if the federal government refuses to intervene.
The group said that “a peep into the goings-on in Ekiti will readily reveal that Governor Fayose is ruling like an Emperor with a belief that the state is an empire under his control and outside of the federal republic of Nigeria. Fayose is now often quoted as saying that “there is no change.” In his opinion, APC and its government do not know how to use power.
“Fayose is constantly in the news for all the wrong reasons. If he thinks he has monopoly of violence, impunity and grandstanding, then, this is the right time for him to think twice. He has a once-in-life-time opportunity to adjust to the new order or ship out.”
According to Dipe, Fayose has made fascism an acceptable style of governance in Ekiti, with the recent arrest and false detention by the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Leader of the state’s market women, Madam Waye Osho, a woman known for her progressive stance and uncompromising attitude with Fayose’s style.
“What could Madam Osho, a market woman, have done to deserve such treatment? We make bold to say that her only offence was her refusal to port from APC to PDP. And the onus of proof that her arrest was not for a vendetta reason is on the state governor.
“The no-love-lost relationship between Fayose and Madam Osho is not hidden. During his first term in office, he seized the vehicle donated to the market women by his predecessor in office, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and equally detained Madam Osho.
“Again, this time around, Fayose is desperate to cook up offenses against the poor woman and put her away, just because she is loyal to APC. This is unacceptable in a democratic era.
“Mrs. Osho’s is just one out of the legion of cases of harassment by Fayose. Fayose’s passion for thuggery and gangsterism is second to none.
“He has made impunity a fashionable style of governance in Ekiti. It is now the norm in the state to arrest supporters of APC and accuse them of murder.
“They are then taken to the police station and from there to prison without trial. And because the courts are not sitting, those arrested are perpetually kept in prison without trial.”
It also called on the Inspector-General of Police to restrain his men in Ekiti from being complicit in the Fayose atrocities.
“Often those arrests are carried out by Fayose’s thugs led by one Akilapa and assisted by the policemen attached to the governor. Scores of soldiers follow the governor everywhere he goes, beating and harassing innocent civilians.
“As at the time of writing, we notice that soldiers still mount road blocks on Ekiti roads in defiance of the order of the President and Commander-In-Chief of the armed Forces that soldiers should leave our highways.
“Ekiti is part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to create fascism within it is unacceptable. The thinking of our people was that they would have a new lease of life with the emergence of President Buhari, but rather, impunity has worsened in the state.
“During his first term in office as governor, Fayose killed, maimed and destroyed properties belonging to those who would not pit their tents with him.
“The several court cases of murder and destruction still hanging on his neck is a proof. This time around again, he has resolved to make those who would not dance to his tune pay dearly for their disobedience.”
APC-AG is of the opinion that if Fayose could not get away with his many atrocities at a time when his own party, PDP, was in government, then his actions should make him a recluse with a saner and more disciplined party in government, except of course, if he is being shielded by some third forces within the ruling party.
