A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Col Sam Inokoba, in Bayelsa State, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), is dead.

Inokoba, a governorship aspirant who is from the same Local Government Area with a former chairman of NDDC, Timi Alaibe, was said to have picked his nomination form two days ago.

Political pundits are already linking his sudden death to in-fighting for the APC governorship ticket in Bayelsa state.

Some have also alleged that Inokoba died in Alaibe’s Lagos home, an allegation that the ex-NDDC boss vehemently denied.

Alaibe in a text message sent to The Eagle Online said, “Wicked people…I have been in Abuja all week. I wonder what the man will be doing in my house in Lagos when I am in Abuja”.

A reliable source told our correspondent that immediately Inokoba got his form, he went to Lagos on the invitation of Alaibe for “crucial talks” on the need for him (Inokoba) to shelve his ambition and allow Alaibe become the sole aspirant from their local government.

Sources also stated that Alaibe had offered N200 million to Inokoba but which was said to have sparked a heated argument between the two men and in the process, Inokoba slumped and died on the spot before he could be rushed to the hospital.

About a week ago, Inokoba was reported to have slumped at an APC stakeholders meeting in Nembe, the report was however, denied by Inokoba and his political associates.

In the report, Inokoba was said to be receiving regular financial support from the Bayelsa State Government to facilitate his frequent medical treatment abroad.

The report also claimed that the late Inokoba got N10 million from the state government two days before he defected to the APC for his regular trip abroad but he never did.
