The Oyo / Osun Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), generated a total of N13.2 billion between January and November this year.

The Acting Customs Area Comptroller, Abdulsalam Hassan while briefing journalists on Tuesday at the Command’s headquarters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital also said that the command collected a total of N 144.3 million from 2156 metric tonnes (43,120 (50kg) bags of rice) as duty between October and November 2015 when the restriction on borders was removed on the commodity.

He described this as great achievements under the new management of Comptroller General of Customs Col. Hammed Ibrahim Ali (rtd).

Abdulsalam also said achieved a total of one hundred and sixty-six (166) seizures with a duty paid value of N395.2 million.

Abdulsalam noted that though no arrest was made during the seizures as the culprits took to their heels, all efforts are on top gear to collaborate with members of the public through the Customs Community Consultative Forum (CCCF) to reduce smuggling into the barest minimum.

“It is troubling to observe that despite the sensitisation and enlightenment campaigns under the platform of Customs Community Consultative Forum (CCCF), some unscrupulous smugglers continue to smuggle. The command will continue to educate, guide, and facilitate trade to enhance willful compliance while the long arm of the law awaits all unrepentant economic saboteurs.
