Maitama Sule: Obasanjo, Bafarawa, Lamido, others condole family

Prominent personalities have continued to troop to the residence of the late elder statesman, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama-Sule at Dawaki Road in Kano metropolis to condole his family.

Maitama-Sule died on Monday, July 3, in a hospital in Cairo, Egypt and was buried on Tuesday, July 4, at Wali Maigeza cemetery in Kano metropolis.

Among those who paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased include the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former governors of Jigawa and Sokoto States, Alhaji Sule Lamido and Alhaji Dalhatu Bafarawa respectively.

Other dignitaries who were also at the residence of late revered Diplomat to condole his family were the former president of the Court of Appeal and District Head of Malumfashi, Justice Mamman Nasir and Prof. Ango Abdullahi.

Others were the Kano-based business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, Former Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega and the former Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the condolence visit the former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Dalhatu Bafarawa described late Dan-masanin Kano as a great hero who died at a time the country and politicians needed his advice.

“Late Danmasanin Kano was a hero, a leader and a father to all Nigerians irrespective of their tribal, Cultural and religious background, “he said.

He stressed the need for Nigerians to always include him in their prayers as it is the only way they could pay him back for the good and selfless service he rendered to the country.

Also in his reaction, the former Jigawa governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido described the death of Maitama-Sule as a great loss not only to Nigeria but the entire African continent.

“His death is a great lost to the entire country because it has created a very big vacuum in the country which will be difficult to fill in the near future, “Lamido said.

He also described the late Dan-Masanin Kano as a teacher, father and a patriot who ensured that Nigeria remained united and one indivisible entity.
