The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won 30 of the 31 chairmanship positions in the Akwa Ibom local government elections.
On Saturday, the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) conducted elections in 31 LGAs and 369 wards.
The results posted on the Facebook page of AKISIEC on Sunday showed that the PDP won 30 LGAs while the All Progressives Congress (APC) clinched one.
Usoro Effiong, candidate of the APC, won the election in Essien Udim LGA.
Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of the state and current senate president, is from Essien Udim.
Akapbio voted during the LGA elections at Ukana Ward 1.
Speaking with journalists after he voted, Akpabio wondered how political parties usually secure 100 percent of the available seats during LGA elections.
“How do people (political parties) normally score this 100 percent?” Akpabio asked. So, it simply means that if elections are allowed to be free and fair, a lot of political parties will choose people on the basis of their competence and not on the basis of the ruling party in that state.”
