Ali Ahmad, speaker of Kwara state house of assembly, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party, alongside 22 other members.
Only one lawmaker in the assembly — Saheed Popoola, representing Ojomu/Balogun constituency — is left in the ruling party.
The lawmakers announced their decision to leave the party at plenary on Wednesday.
Reading the letter of the defection, the speaker said he was sad leaving the PDP, but is now the happiest man.
“All the honorable members except one have finally changed party to the PDP,” he said.
“Today, as I and other members of the Kwara state assembly dump the APC for good, I heaved a sigh of relief. Today, I am the happiest leaving the APC for good. I wish I was never a member of the party.”
This is coming a day after Senate President Bukola Saraki, who is from the state, and Abdulfatah Ahmed, governor of Kwara, dumped the APC for the PDP.
