Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun would on November 19 present the 2014 budget proposal to the state House of Assembly.
The Speaker of the House, Hon. Suraj Adekunbi, who read the governor’s letter during plenary on Tuesday in Abeokuta, said the governor would present the fiscal proposal at 10. a.m.
“This is in accordance with the provision of section 121 of the Nigerian constitution as amended. Gov Amosun expressed gratitude to the members of Ogun State House of Assembly for their cooperation with the executive,” the letter said.
Also at plenary, the bill for a law to re-align the 2013 appropriation law scaled through the second reading.
Hon. Job Akintan, the Minority Leader, said some government agencies had exhausted their budgetary provision for 2013 in the area of payment of salaries and overheads.
“There is need to re-align the budget estimates by moving funds from agencies where we have excesses to agencies where funds are required for operations before the end of the year.
“There is the need for urgent budget amendment; it should also be noted that the original size of the budget will not be affected,” he said.
Akintan further said the Ministry of Finance had also sought the approval of the House in the virement of N400 million to fund the Home Owners Charter Programme of the government.
He said the government required the sum from the special project vote of the ministry for the programme.
Adekunbi, however, directed that the request be committed to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further action.
