The Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Kayode Amusan, has refuted the allegation that described him as a gun-runner, stressing that his political opponents are trying to smear his image.

Amusan said this at the backdrop of a Facebook smear campaign, which indicated that 20 AK 47 rifles were found in his campaign office at Oke Ilewo area of Abeokuta, which has been sealed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

While addressing journalists on the issue on Monday at Abeokuta, the guber aspirant said that the sealing was done under an order of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, which alleged that the property was bought with proceeds from fraud.

Amusan said he had duly bought the property from the owner and did the necessary checks before paying for it and described the allegation of gun-running as politically motivated from opposition in the state.

Amusan, a two-term member of the House of Representatives from Odeda/Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode Federal constituency, said he employed a security guard who had a licensed dane gun to guard the office.

“It was the security guard who’s a member of a vigilante group that I employed to guard my campaign office, that was arrested by the men that came to seal my office.

“He was taken to Ibara police station, and since he’s licenced to carry the gun, he has been released. So I don’t know where they got the story of 20 AK 47 rifles from. From my investigations, I saw the hands of my political opponents in all this.”

He said he had to employ a security guard because the state government had refused to approve the application plan for perimeter fencing for the office for over a year now.

He said he has mandated his lawyer to take up the case, by filing a suit at a Federal High Court in Lagos State in order to quash the interim order sealing the office.
