A chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Willy Ezugwu, has asked other states in the country to emulate the conduct of last Saturday local government elections in Anambra State, stating that the outcome not only reflects the peoples will but also set the standards for ideal transparency in the conduct of local government elections in the country.
Ezugwu, while congratulating Governor Peter Obi and the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission ( ANSIEC) on the credibility of the poll, tasked politicians to always allow the electorates’ will dictate the outcome of elections.
APGA which won 20 out of the 21 local government elections in the state, further won 304 of the 327 councillorship seats with the PDP winning 12. The UPP and PPA each had a councilor.
Ezugwu who is also the secretary general of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), said the LG poll results in Anambra was a clear vindication of the results of the governorship election which produced APGA as the winner, adding that time had come for politicians to eschew bitterness and allow the state to progress.
“The political travails of Anambra State is one that had not been positive in the political annals of the country, but with the renewed vigour being exhibited by the Peter Obi administration even as prepares to exit the Anambra Government House, must be lauded.
“Last Saturday’s election like the governorship election which held some weeks ago, was a manifestation of the clarity, transparency, free and fairness of what elections could be even as we approach 2015. We must reject the outright and blatant rigging of election results and subject ourselves to the will of the electorate”, Ezugwu stated
