A special meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) holds on Thursday on the postponed National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the party.
The meeting, which is coming ahead of Friday’s meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the leadership of NWC, will also discuss the recent development in the committee following Wednesday’s resignation of the National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Salihu Mohd. Lukman.
A source within the committee, who spoke in confidence with NewMailNG said the meeting will also consider a proposed agenda prepared by the Secretariat for both the Caucus and NEC meetings.
NewMailNG gathered further the meeting will also suggest likely dates for the two meetings subject to the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the National Leader of the party.
Also on the agenda for the NWC meeting is the review of membership lists of the five statutory standing committees to be presented at NEC for approval.
Article 18 of the party’s constitution approves the setting up of the Establishment Committee, Finance Committee, Publicity Committee, Intergovernmental Committee and Conflict and Reconciliation Committee.
The source said: “The NWC meeting on Thursday will be taking some far-reaching decisions on the postponed National Caucus and NEC meetings. We are to prepare agenda that will be presented to the President on Friday for both Caucus and NEC meetings.
“The meeting will also be reviewing the lists of memberships of the five statutory committees to be presented to NEC for approval at its next meeting.”
Asked if the NWC has agreed on dates for the postponed meetings, the source said: “Dates of crucial meetings are not just fixed like that. New dates for the two meetings will be arrived at after due consultations with various stakeholders subject to final approval of the President based on his schedules.
“We are suggesting possible dates in the proposed agenda for the two meetings the NWC will be presenting to President latest by Friday. I learnt the President is likely to receive the NWC by Friday.”
On the resignation of the National Vice Chairman Northwest, the NWC members expressed shock over the development. the source said: “Some of us were shocked by this development and I know it will be one of the major things that we (NWC) shall discuss on Thursday.”
