Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress APC, clashed on Monday in Ile-Ife, Osun State leaving scores with various degrees of injuries.

Sources said that supporters of PDP allegedly attacked the APC when the latter were celebrating the victory of their candidate, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, in the Saturday governorship election.

But the Police Public Relation Officer PPRO Osun State command, Folasade Odoro, denied any clash saying; “People were only jubilant, not only in Ile-Ife, but all parts of the state.”

The APC, in a statement by its Director of Publicity and Research, Kunle Oyatomi, alleged that the PDP went on rampage against the supporters of APC, who were celebrating Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s victory in last Saturday’s governorship election.

He said that “Apart from physical injuries inflicted on our supporters, the PDP thugs extended their violence to Gbodo, where they attacked and damaged properties belonging to the father of the Executive Secretary of Ife South Local Government, Tajuden Lawal.

“Not done with their violence, they went ahead to vandalise shops in Itakogun. Fortunately, we are told the police have intervened and the situation is being normalised.”

The APC however advised all its supporters in Ile Ife and other parts of the state to be calm.

When asked, Diran Odeyemi Director of Publicity and Strategy of PDP in the state denied the allegation saying instead it was the APC supporters attacking PDP members.
