The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Jigawa, on Sunday called for peaceful conduct of the Jan. 18 local government election in the state.
The party also called on the state Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC) to be fair and make adequate arrangements to ensure a hitch-free election.
Muhammad Gabi, the Secretary, Election Committee of the party, who made the call in Hadejia, said that it was imperative for political parties and their candidates to demonstrate high sense of responsibility and avoid acts that could mar the election.
“Politicians, the electorate and other stakeholders should ensure the conduct of free and fair polls. We believe in peace and the APC is set for a peaceful election,” Gabi said.
He said that the party had adopted effective campaign strategy to sweep the polls.
Also speaking, Ibrahim Alasan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chairmanship candidate for Auyo Local Government Council, said the party had extended its campaign to rural areas to woo voters.
Alasan, who spoke at a rally at Gatafan village, said the party had a sound manifesto to improve the social and economic condition of the people.
The chairmanship candidate also urged youths not to allow themselves to be used for election violence.
Only the PDP fielded candidates for the chairmanship and councillors’ positions in all the eight local government ares of the Hadejia Senatorial District.
On its part, the APC had fielded two chairmanship candidates and 16 councillors in Hadejia and Malammadori local council areas.
The Hadejia senatorial district comprises Auyo, Birniwa, Guri, Kafinhausa, Kaugama, Kirikasamma, Guri and Hadejia local government areas.
