The Federal High Court in Abuja has upheld Asue Ighodalo’s nomination as the PDP candidate for the Edo State gubernatorial election. The court’s decision was delivered by Justice James Omotosho in a judgment on suit CS/469/24 Wednesday.

The court dismissed the case filed by Philip Shaibu, who had challenged Ighodalo’s nomination. Ighodalo was declared the winner of the PDP primary election held on February 22, 2024, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, with 577 votes.

The court ruled that Ighodalo’s nomination was valid and that the plaintiffs’ case lacked merit. The court also found that the action was statute-barred and struck it out.

This ruling affirms Ighodalo’s candidacy for the Edo State gubernatorial election, which is scheduled to take place in 2024. The decision is a significant development in the state’s political landscape.
