Confusion raged Monday afternoon following a rumoured resurrection of the late governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi, Prince Abubakar Audu.
Audu reportedly died Sunday morning, few hours before the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared the election in which he had virtually won.
While a grave for the interment of Abubakar Audu has been dug at his hometown, Ogbonicha in Igala, Kogi, some of his supporters are rejoicing over his rumoured resurrection.
There is heavy security presence at his house, while thousands of Audu’s ecstatic supporters are thronging Ogbonicha to witness his said revival.
An indigene of Kogi who works with one of the leading Deposit Money Banks in Lagos was the first to call attention of New Mail to the rumour.
The sources, whose identity is being kept under wraps had sent a WhatsApp message to our correspondent seeking to confirm the authenticity or otherwise of the claim which he said is spreading widely, particularly among ‘Kogites.”
The conversation goes thus:
The Source: “Pls, is it true what I am hearing again that Audu has risen again?
New Mail: Haba! Falsehood
The Source: All of us Kogi people in my office are receiving calls from our people saying he(Audu) has woken up.
New Mail: Haba! You guys should know its not possible now.
Meanwhile, the late former governor of Kogi is expected to be buried by 2.00pm Monday, after it was shifted from the original time of 10.00am to enable many of his associates and political soulmates travel down to Kogi to pay their last respect.
The state government has also declared a 7-day mourning period for the late Audu.
