At least one person was killed and three others wounded in a clash between farmers and herdsmen in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa on Friday.

Reports have it that farmers and herdsmen engaged themselves in battle at Dorawaji village at about 11.30 p.m. on Friday.

Muhammad Gidado, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who confirmed the incident, said that two injured persons had been taken to the General Hospital in Guri and the corpse deposited in the morgue.

He said that a joint patrol team of police, military and men of the NSCDC had been drafted to the area.

A resident, Malam Musa Bulama, said the crisis erupted when farmers accused herdsmen of leading cattle to graze in their farms.

“The herdsmen, armed with bows and arrows, attacked the farmers who were trying to stop them from destroying their crops.’’

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abdu Jinjiri, said the command had not received the report of the incident.

Guri Local Government Council had banned cattle grazing at night in order to curtail incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
