The body of a man who jumped into the Lagos lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge has been recovered.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the body was recovered in the early hours of Thursday.
The remains was immediately bagged for the morgue by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).
According to eyewitnesses, the victim, who was a dispatch rider, parked his operational motorbike on the bridge before taking the plunge on Tuesday afternoon.
Hawkers and passersby who saw him before the incident, reportedly thought he wanted to fix his bike when he parked on the bridge.
Margaret Adeseye, director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the rescue operation was carried out by the agency, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Health, Environmental Monitoring Unit, and the locals.
“The search and rescue operations began in earnest immediately the alert of the incident was received at 14:53 hours and culminated in the recovery of the body today by 09:15 hours at the LASEMA end of the lagoon bank,” Adeyeye said.
