Breaking: Buhari, Osinbajo receive Certificate of Return

Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s president-elect, has been issued a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The chairman of INEC, Attahiru Jega, handed the certificate to Buhari, and the vice president-elect, Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday.

Buhari defeated President Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential election held Saturday.

Speaking after receiving the certificate, Buhari said “Change has finally come” to Nigeria and the long night has passed”.

“Am grateful to God for this day and this hour. Humbled that the Nigerian people have chosen me. Today, history is being made and change has finally come.

“My team and I shall faithfully serve u. We shall not rule over the people as if they are subservient. This is not a victory for me, one man or party but for all Nigerians.

“Lets put the recent past behind us. We must forget our past differences and forge ahead. I pledge myself and govt to just and principled governance. There shall be no preference for discrimination. I pledge to uphold the rule of law.
