Former president Muhammadu Buhari Saturday received the bride to Governor Babagana Zulum’s son, Mohammed, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The wedding ceremony took place at the Maiduguri Central Mosque, near the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, with Buhari performing the religious role of receiving the new wife to the eldest son of the governor.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and Alhaji Aliko Dangote attended the wedding ceremony, which attracted other dignitaries from various states of the federation.
Ten state governors comprising those of Lagos, Kwara, Gombe, Yobe, Ogun, Niger, Ogun, Bauchi, Abia and Katsina graced the occasion.
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; former governors of Borno, Maina Ma’aji Lawan and Ali Modu Sheriff; former governors Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano), Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara), former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali as well as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, and numerous serving and former ministers, National and State Assembly members were also in Maiduguri for the ceremony.
Performing the wedding rites, Buhari asked for the bride’s hand (Ummi Kaltum) on behalf of Zulum’s son and thereafter handed the dowry to a representative of the bride. The wedding ceremony was officiated by the Chief Imam of Borno, Imam Zanna Laisu.
