Chidimma Adetshina, the former Miss South Africa contestant, has expressed interest in winning the Miss Universe Nigeria.

In an interview with News Live SA, the model, who recently arrived in Nigeria, said she was excited about being in her “father’s land” for the first time in 20 years.

The 23-year-old also expressed eagerness to explore and learn more about her Nigerian heritage.

“I am just really excited that I am in my father’s land and I want to experience more about it. It has been 20 years since I have been here, so I just wanna get to know more about Nigeria’s culture and where I really come from,” she said.

Adetshina also revealed her ambition to claim the Miss Universe Nigeria, saying, “My goal is to obviously win the crown”.

Chidimma was born in 2001 in Soweto at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Her father is of Igbo descent while some reports said her mother is a Mozambican who had become a naturalized citizen of South Africa.

Her participation in Miss South Africa had sparked controversy due to questions about her nationality. This led to a surge of criticism on social media, particularly from South Africans.

The controversy prompted an investigation by the South African Ministry of Home Affairs.

Following the investigation, Chidimma withdrew from Miss South Africa and accepted the invitation to participate in this year’s Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.

The Miss Universe Nigeria pageant organisers recently announced Chidimma’s participation in the competition and revealed that she represents Taraba state.
