Clarion Chukwura eyes Actors Guild presidency

Veteran actress Clarion Chukwurah has taken a swipe at the leadership of the Actors’Guild of Nigeria and declared her intention to vie for the guild’s top position currently occupied by Ibinabo Fiberisima.

Chukwura said, she would rather score Ibinabo’s administration ‘zero’ because “I cannot see what it is she has achieved,” and promised to improve on the welfare of the members if voted into office.

According to her, “I do know that Ibinabo’s tenure would end in September. I intend to run for President of AGN because it is high time veterans and hard core professionals begin to pilot the affairs of the guild.

“The first thing I intend to carry out, if voted into office is to bring together experienced actors who are trained lawyers like Tunji Bamishigbin, Wale Adebayo, Richard Mofe Damijo, Funke Akindele among others to sit down and look at the issue of legislation, put together a bill that will be presented to the National Assembly.

“This bill will be driven to a logical conclusion till it is understood by even a lay man. For instance, everybody knows that there is the need for a single body to be representing the Screen Actors of Nigeria like the Screen Actors Guild of America.

“Also, I will ensure that transparent and professional conditions by which actors can be employed in this country are put in place. This, involves encouraging people who are interested in establishing casting agencies to come forth and register with the guild.”
