College of Education lecturers suspend strike

The College of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, has suspended its strike pending the outcome of its scheduled meeting with Minster of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau on Thursday.

The chairman of COEASU at the College of Education, Zuba, Abuja, Ahmed Bazza, however, explained told journalists that the strike has not been called off but suspended by the “in-house” – that is the leaders of COEASU.

“We have not called off but only suspended the strike. The in-house have suspended the strike pending the outcome of the meeting with the new minster on Thursday,” Bazza said.

The lecturers commenced their strike on December 18, 2013 after several failed meetings with government representatives, are demanding proper funding of the colleges and adequate welfare for the lecturers.
