The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended four members of the Klansmen Konfraternity, who went to bury one of their members, Wasiu Rafiu, aka Kaba Kaba, who died of gunshot injuries.
It was learnt that a police anti-cultism team, led by Uduak Udom, stormed the Igbo-Okuta area of Ikorodu after receiving a distress call that cultists were in the area to bury Rafiu.
The suspected cultists are Owolabi Olamilekan, 18; Sani Aliyu, 20; Daniel Olamide, 20; and Sunday Kingsley, 18.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Bala Elkana, said on Thursday that eight other suspected cults were arrested at their hideouts in Oworonshoki and Satellite Town by the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command during the initiation of new members of the Eiye Confraternity.
He said the suspected cultists were Michael Hastrup, 24; Damilare Afolabi, 21; Richard Ogunnubi, 15; Ogunlaja Elijah, 28; Adepitan Adeniyi, 21; Adebayo Ismaila, 21; Adefesu Abdulwahab, 25; and Obinna Okey, 23.
Elkana added that the suspects had been disturbing public peace and order through various criminal activities linked to them as well as clashes within Oworonshoki and Satellite Town areas of Lagos.
He stated, “At the Igbo-Okuta area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on March 16 around 5.10pm, a distress call was received that some Klansmen Konfraternity members came to bury one of their colleagues, Wasiu Rafiu, aka Kaba Kaba, who died of gunshot wounds.
“A team of anti-cultism personnel, led by CSP Uduak Udom, stormed the area and arrested the dreaded cultists.
“The cultists are Owolabi Olamilekan, 18; Sani Aliyu, 20; Daniel Olamide, 20; and Sunday Kingsley, 18.
“Eight other cultists, who belong to the Eiye Confraternity and who used to disturb public peace and order around Oworoshonki and Satellite Town, were also arrested by the police. They were arrested during the initiation of new members into the cult group.”
The PPRO added that five suspected cultists that used to terrorise Shomolu and Bariga areas of the state were also arrested by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit on routine patrol.
The suspects, according to him, are Kunle Oshinanya, aka Bansy, 38; Adesanya Yesiu, aka Yesuru, 37; Segun Olanrewaju, 24; Tobi Akere, 25; and Arowolo Muyiwa, 27.
Elkana added that the suspected cultists had been engaged in stealing, confrontation with security agents and shooting, among others.
