Confusion broke out at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNNAB on Monday when the suspended Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, defied the suspension order of the Federal Ministry of Education, reportedly resumed in his office.
The suspension order was conveyed in a letter dated May 8, 2017, which was signed by the acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, Hussaini Adamu, and the letter was delivered to him last Thursday.
The letter directed the suspended Vice-Chancellor to hand over the affairs of the institution to the most senior staff.
The embattled Vice -Chancellor had last Friday in compliance with the suspension order by the ministry handed over to Prof. Oluyemisi Eromosele, Deputy VC, Academic, who was the senior academic member of staff.
Prof. Oyewole however shocked institution’s workers and students when he resurfaced and went straight to his former office and began performing official functions undeterred.
Some of the functions reportedly performed on Monday were signing of the salary schedule of FUNAAB Staff School and granting approval of the sitting allowance and expenses incurred on the inauguration of the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the institution.
It was further gathered that Prof. Oyewole has sent a letter of appeal to the Federal Ministry of Education to protest his suspension.
When contacted, Head, Directorate of Public Relations of the institution, Mrs. Emi Alawode said she did not have details of the development.
“Sorry, I do not have full details yet and therefore, unable to respond appropriately, now.”
It will be recalled that the embattled don and three other have been arraigned for alleged corrupt charges.
