The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi has cautioned road users on proper use of the road during the Christmas celebration, saying it is only the living that celebrates.

He gave the admonition in his Christmas message while felicitating with the Christians on the occasion of the event marking the birth of Christ.

Oyeyemi noted that FRSC has in anticipation of increased human and vehicular traffic during the celebration put all necessary measures in place to address gridlock and crashes which characterise the period.

According to him, yuletide season is a period of heightened human and vehicular traffic and could lead to road obstruction and pervasive crashes if not well managed, urging all road users to play their own part by obeying the traffic rules and regulations for effective traffic management.

The Corps Marshal appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with the FRSC and other law enforcement agencies deployed for traffic management, saying FRSC patrol and Rescue teams have been adequately mobilised to assist road travellers at all the identified black spots across the country.

“FRSC Help areas/Road Side Clinics as well as Ambulance Points would remain open throughout the period of the celebration to attend to emergencies and assist travellers on transit.

“I wish to remind all road users to obey the traffic rules and regulations. Avoid speeding, overloading, driving against traffic and always use your seatbelt while driving,” he stated.

“Drivers should avoid driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs; don’t make call or text while driving, avoid conveying fuel in jerry cans, avoid night trips and use of faulty lighting system. Remember that it is only the living that celebrates,” Oyeyemi stated.

In the event of emergency, the Corps Marshal called on members of the public to immediately notify FRSC through its emergency line: 0700-CALL-FRSC (0700-22553772) or Toll-free line: 122 for prompt response.

The Corps Marshal wishes all Nigerians happy Christmas celebration and prosperous New Year in advance.
