A Lagos state high court has restrained DAAR communications, owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT) from airing a defamatory documentary against Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

AIT started airing the documentary titled ‘The Lion of Bourdillon’ on March 1, forcing Tinubu to threaten to file a N20 billion suit against the broadcast outfit.

However, AIT also filed a N100 billion counter-suit against Tinubu, maintaining that it was only carrying out a “constitutional duty”.

Subsequently, Tinubu instituted N150 billion suit against AIT on March 5, alleging that the documentary was libelous and aimed at tarnishing his image.

In her ruling on Monday, Justice Iyabo Akinkugbe, restrained AIT from transmitting the documentary and adjourned the case to March 20.

“The defendant is hereby restrained from further airing, publishing or disseminating broadcasting the documentary ‘Lion of Bourdilion’, pending the determination of the interlocutory application,” Akinkugbe said.
