The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, of Nigeria Customs Service in Ikeja says it has intercepted a truck with 1, 074 cartons of smuggled frozen poultry products.
In a statement signed by the FOU Comptroller, Nuhu Muhmoud, the command said that the smugglers of the frozen products, valued at N5.83 million, were caught on Sunday.
According to him, the unit’s success was due to its renewed determination to enforce zero tolerance for importation of prohibited items, particularly frozen poultry products.
“The officers apprehended the truck with the driver and an escort who have been taken into custody,” he said.
Mahmoud said that the truck was intercepted based on intelligence report.
He said that the smugglers concealed the frozen poultry products in 190 cartons of Viju and bobo fruit milk.
He commended the officers for their commitment, resilience and professionalism.
The Comptroller re-assured Nigerians that the unit would not rest on its oars until activities of unpatriotic elements were brought to book.
Mahmoud, who warned smugglers to stay away from the zone, said that the smugglers of the poultry products would soon be arraigned in court.
