The Nigerian army has responded to the criticisms of the Nigerian soldiers after they were described as ‘cowards’ by the Nigerien army authorities.

“Our soldiers are not like Nigerians. They don’t run,” the Defence Ministry of Niger said in a statement. The statement further said that Nigerien soldiers were braver the Nigerian soldiers.

Nigerien troops are part of the coalition forces that are currently battling Boko Haram insurgents in north-east Nigeria.

In a series of tweet, the Defence Headquarters spokesman, Gen. Chirs Olukolade, described the Nigerien statement as ‘irresponsible’. He accused the Nigerien soldiers of assisting Boko Haram and looting properties of people displaced by the insurgents.

He said Nigerian troops have done well so far in spite of different internal and external obstacles, and expressed belief that the insurgents would soon be conquered.

“Nigerian Soldiers remain undaunted despite attacks and insults. They have been maximizing the use of available resources to keep at bay these terrorists who keep flooding in from around. Our troops have with due decency & professionalism respected borders.

“Our soldiers have remained professional & sacrificial in protecting their fellow Nigerians, preserving the nation’s asset.

“Despite these jeerings, insults & ill wishes from within or without Nigeria, the Nigerian Soldier has not & will not be deterred.

“He remains the gallant, brave and patriotic Nigerian Soldier. Although these battles continue, and others are now joining him, never mind.

#Very soon, it will be #VictoryforNigeria. The Nigerian Military remains a great asset and the envy of other Nations,” he said.

Olukolade said Nigerien authorities was uncalled and that Nigerians should support the military fully. He chided Nigerian politicians who had criticised the military and the government based on the Nigerien statement. H

“The Nigerien Defence Ministry’s irresponsible comment is noted. It is sad a few partisan elements join the Poor Country to insult our Troops

“We don’t cross our boundaries. It is unacceptable for any Foreign Government to say our Soldiers run. This is your Motherland! Defend Her!

“Some rushed to the press with the Nigerien gaffe hoping to embarrass our military or government. But nobody will disrespect my Mother!

“Poor Niger! Treacherous ones amongst us accorded them effrontery to insult our troops to gain bad press. Don’t compromise your Patriotism!”
