Former Niger Delta militant, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, has petitioned the Department of State Security, DSS, asking it to investigate the allegation that he procured suicide bombers to kill General Muhammdu Buhari who narrowly escaped death in the July 23 bomb blast that killed about eight five people in Kaduna.
In a petition signed by Messrs Bala Dakum and Ibrahim Abdullahi of the Festus Keyamo Chambers, Dokubo Asari averred that an online media, RESCUE NEWS, published a news item that he procured suicide bombers to kill General Muhammdu Buhari and that he was privy to a plot to assassinate General Muhammdu Buhari.
“The publisher further alleged that our client paid the sum of N5 million to the suicide bombers that carried out the said dastardly act and that one of the suspected suicide bombers arrested in connection with the said incident of 23rd July, 2014 has confessed to our client’s complicity in the said act.
“Our client finds these mendacious allegations made against him too weighty and grave to ignore or disregard. The said allegations have endangered the life of our client, the lives of his family, close associates and kinsmen.
The petition stated that while Dokubo has the right to express his views on national issues like any other citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and has done so on many occasions, he has never and will never be involved in a plot to kill a respected former leader like Buhari or anyone for that matter.
“We kindly implore you to use your good offices to thoroughly investigate the allegations leveled against our client by the said Rescue News to curtail the threat, public disenchantment and animosity already created against our client, his family, close associates and kinsmen as a result of these baseless allegations,” it said.
