Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, not to disappoint Nigerians, who voted him to power.
Abubakar, spoke through the Secretary-General, NSCIA, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, during a media briefing in Ilorin on Thursday, stated that Nigerians have high expectations from him and urged Buhari to be wary of praise singers and accept good advice from his critics.
“Nigerians have great expectations from an incorruptible man, a role model, a gallant officer and distinguished statesman who they could not be induced by money to abandon.
“It is your responsibility not to disappoint the teeming majority, the masses especially, who sacrificed their time, energy and lives because their hope hangs on you,” the Sultan said.
Abubakar lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, stressing that by that singular act, Jonathan has etched his name in gold in Nigeria’s history.
“Under your watch, Nigeria has organised the best election in her history. It is satisfying that the American ambassador to Nigeria was reported to have said he would recommend a component of our electoral process to his country, which means your administration has positively impacted on the electoral process.
“Human beings are fallible and you have your own weaknesses like the rest of us. We pray that the Almighty Allah forgive your lapses and direct your future course.
“Nigerians are indeed proud of you and we pray to associate with your courage and magnanimity,” he said.
