In what took many by surprise, former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, paid a visit to the national secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja, on Wednesday.
SDP was among the parties that participated in the 2023 election, which El-Rufai, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, was actively involved in.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was on his way to securing a ministerial appointment in the government of President Bola Tinubu, but he was dropped in the dying minute.
The Senate had failed to clear him over an alleged security clearance.
Subsequently, the former minister went abroad and literally withdrew from politics.
However, he returned to the country and continued his life quietly,
His visit to the SDP national secretariat has set tongues wagging, with some linking it to the 2027 political race.
El-Rufai, who is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was seen in a viral video on social media paying a consultation visit to the national chairman of the SDP, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam.
The source further added that Gabam appreciated his guest and his entourage for the visit, saying that, “it’s time for all stakeholders in the country to put aside ethnic, regional, and political differences to move the country forward more, especially at this period when the country is facing serious challenges ranging from hunger, insecurity, joblessness, kidnapping, and inflation, among others.”
Chief Olu Agunloye, a former power minister who, like El-Rufai served in the cabinet of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, was among those who received the immediate past governor of Kaduna State at the SDP secretariat.
