The Chief Executive Officer, Ethiopian Airline Group, Tewolde Gebremariam, has said that the airline has bought a B-787 Dreamliner full flight simulator.

A statement issued by the airline and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, stated that the airline was the first in Africa to own a dreamliner full flight stimulator.

It quoted Gebremariam as saying that the installation and build-up of the full flight simulator was in progress at Ethiopian main hub in Addis Ababa, adding that the first pilot training in the B-787 flight simulator would start in March.

“Ethiopian is the first airline in the world outside Japan to receive and operate the B-787 Dreamliner in August, 2012.

“Currently, the airline is the largest operator of the B-787 in Africa with the installation of its flight simulator.

“It is also the first in Africa to give full flight simulator training for pilots on the B-787 aircraft.

“We are continually investing in developing our training capability. With installation of the B-787 Flight Simulator, we will be fully self-sufficient in providing in-house training for our pilots,” he said.

The CEO said that the airline had invested about $80 million in expanding the scope and scale of the academy, adding that investment in the academy would also help to increase the annual in-take capacity from its current 1,000 trainees to about 4,000 by 2025.
