Evans Bipi, Speaker of a faction in Rivers House of Assembly, said he would declare pro-Gov. Rotimi Amaechi lawmakers’ seats vacant if they defected to All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bipi, who spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Friday, added that he was a member and would ever remain a member of the ruling PDP.

“My aim is to ensure peace in the Assembly. I will soon secure an order from the court and present it to the police to gain access to the Assembly Complex to carry out legislative functions’’, he added.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mbu Joseph Mbu, said police did not allow the two factions to enter the Assembly premises because there was no order from the court.

He said police could only allow the lawmakers to enter the Assembly to do their job if there was an order from the High Court to do so.

“As soon as the police receive an order from the court, we would reopen the Assembly for the legislators to start their legislative functions.’’

Mbu added that the police would clean up the complex to ensure that offensive weapons were not hidden in the House before allowing them to take over the place.
