The immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has condoled with the family of the late Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America, Prof Adebowale Adefuye over the death of the foremost diplomat in Washington on Thursday.

Fayemi in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, described Prof Adefuye’s death as “shocking and saddening”.

He described the late Ambassador as a thorough bred academic and consummate diplomat with a great understanding of the dynamism of international relations, who successfully deployed his energy and vast experience to shore up the country’s profile in the various capacities he had served in his almost three decades of diplomatic assignments.

Fayemi who recalled his experiences with the late Ambassador Adefuye first, as one of his students at the University of Lagos in the eighties and during the various encounters he had with him at his last duty post, in the United States, said Adefuye lived an impactful life.

“As a lecturer and later HOD of the History Department at the University of Lagos, he was a source of inspiration to his students. He was also a first class diplomat, highly effective and highly respected”

According to Fayemi, “Prof. Adefuye was a dutiful mentor and a dedicated teacher who keenly followed the progress of his students through the years”.

He added that Nigeria would miss the qualitative service of the outstanding diplomat who contributed immensely to the country’s growing influence in the comity of nations.

“Our condolences go to the members of the immediate family of Prof Adefuye and the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria over the passage of this great and erudite scholar and respected diplomat.

“Prof Adefuye lived a good life and left an indelible mark in the lives of his students and positive footprint in the sand of time. While we mourn his passage, I urge his family and his children in particular to take solace in the fact that he lived a good life, served his fatherland and humanity very well and left a legacy of honour and service.” Fayemi added.
