The wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Feyisetan Fayose has
distributed ‘Mama kits’ to over 1,200 pregnant women across the 16
Local Government Areas in the State as part of efforts at empowering women as well as reducing mortality and morbidity rates of mothers and babies in the State.
The Governor’s wife also gave out 1,000 school uniforms, 500 bags and 500 sandals to indigent primary and secondary schools students in the State.
The distribution of the ‘Mama kits’ which contained delivery items and Frisomum milk was carried out in collaboration with the State Action Committee on AIDS (EKSACA).
Mrs. Fayose who said that the gesture was part of what is now
popularly known as “Stomach Infrastructure”, advised pregnant women in the State to register in Government Hospitals in order to assess optimum ante-natal care.
Describing the reliance on traditional birth attendants and midwives as dangerous, she highlighted the disadvantages of ignoring appropriate ante-natal care in proper health facilities to include the inability of health officials to promptly attend to erring patients in event of complications and referral to hospitals due to unfamiliar health history.
Mrs Fayose counseled prospective mothers to include vegetables and
fruits in their diet in order to enhance their health and that of
their unborn children.
The Governor’s wife however charged parents and guardians to caution their children, especially the girl child, against engaging in premarital sex which she noted often lead to teenage and unwanted pregnancies.
One of the beneficiaries of the largess, Odunayo Ajayi expressed gratitude to the Governor’s wife, describing the gesture as a display of her commitment to the welfare of women and children in the State.
Health talks were given by dieticians from the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital in each of the Local Government Areas before the items were distributed to educate the beneficiaries on how best to achieve the required balance diet in the face of the prevailing economic downturn.
On the entourage of the wife of the Governor was the wife of the
Deputy Governor, Deaconess Janet Olusola, the wife of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Moji Oluwawole and the PDP State
Women leader, Yemisi Afolabi among others.
