Information Minister Labaran Maku on Wednesday said security personnel had intensified efforts in tracking the terrorists who abducted over 100 students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok in Borno.
Maku said this in Abuja when he briefed newsmen on the outcome of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to him, government has already mobilised all security apparatus against the insurgents for the liberation of the girls.
“On the kidnapped students, which we condemned, I also know that efforts are being made to locate the students and those who kidnapped them. Security services are on and we are doing everything to make sure we get those girls back”.
Maku, who described terrorists as the most dangerous insurgents in the world, said government would ensure that further harm was not done to the abducted girls.
The Minister reminded Nigerians that battling terrorists anywhere in the world required a lot of public cooperation and understanding.
He urged the populace to be more united in the face of the trials and wickedness perpetrated by the terrorists, saying the country would soon overcome the challenges.
He, therefore, called on all law abiding citizens to assist security agencies in their fight against insurgency in the country.
“It is our mutual war, nobody is unimportant in this journey, nobody. In this war, it is the war of all Nigerians against terrorists and the more we get united, the more we speak the same language, the more we look at terror beyond politics, the better for the victory that is expected of this nation against terror groups.”
Maku reassured that government would continue to improve upon its security architecture to ensure greater safety and protection of lives and property of all citizens irrespective of their geo-political backgrounds.
