The Federal Government on Thursday inaugurated 11-man committee on the regulatory issues raised by the Airlines Operators of Nigeria(AON).
The Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, who inaugurated the task force in Abuja, directed its members to find lasting solutions to the payment of multiple charges by operators, the state of infrastructure at the airports and look into the negotiation of Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA).
According to him, when the administration came on board they met so many issues and complaints on the ground and some were already resolved.
“Since we assumed office they have been lots of complaints against quite a number of issues that have been in the industry before we came, we did the best that we could to solve many.
“It is my understanding that some of these issues have been tabled before the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (then as Acting President) and he directed that a committee be set up under my chairmanship to look into these issues.
“This committee is not the first committee to be set up; some years ago a committee was set up for a similar purpose and report had been produced.
“What we are doing today is to inaugurate the task force committee to follow the instructions of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.”
He said that with these mandates given to the members, they can think of ideas that would help in tackling these issues.
He urged members to take the assignment seriously and do justice to the issues on ground and give their best service to the environment.
The committee will be chaired by Sen. Hadi Sirika with heads of aviation agencies as members.
