Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, has set up a task force to facilitate the relocation of commercial airlines from the old terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, to the new one.
In a statement on Saturday, Oluseyi Odutayo, the ministry’s head of press and public affairs, said the development was necessitated by the recent fire outbreak at the old terminal.
The fire incident, which occurred at the airport on Wednesday, had gutted a section of the old terminal as well as a section of the administrative office of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Following this incident, FAAN announced that flight operations had been moved from the old terminal of the airport to the new one (terminal two).
The federal government said the five-man committee was set up to ease the relocation.
The task force, headed by Hassan Musa, former director of the department of air transport management, will be responsible for resolving passenger concerns, minimising discomfort, and ensuring effective public communication during the transition period.
Other members of the committee are Adebayo Oladipo, general manager aerodrome, NCAA; Collins Mukoro, Uyoyou Edhekpo, and Henry Agbebire, special assistants to the minister.
According to the statement, the task force will work closely with FAAN to streamline processes at both terminals, enhance signage, provide dedicated support staff, and improve communication channels.
The task force is also expected to submit its report within two weeks.
The ministry expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the relocation and assured passengers that the task force would work to resolve all concerns promptly.
The government assured of its commitment to passenger comfort, safety, and overall satisfaction during the transitional period.
