The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, who is also the returning officer for the Presidential election has formally declared Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, winner of the 2015 Presidential Election.
In announcing the result, Jega said that there were a total of 31,746,490 accredited voters for the Saturday’s Presidential elections, but said that 28, 587,564 votes were counted out of 29,432,083 total votes cast, adding that 844, 519 votes were rejected for various reasons.
Of the total votes, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress which won the election polled a total of 15,424,921 votes, followed by President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party that had 12,853, 162 votes.
The All Progressives Alliance, APA came a distance third with 53,537 votes, followed by ACPN with 40,311 votes; CPP with 36,300 votes; AD with 30, 679 votes; ADC with 29,666; PPN with 24, 475; NCP with 24, 455 votes and AA with 22,125 votes.
Others include, UPP with 18,220 votes; KOWA with 13,076 votes; UDP with 9,208 and HOPE with 7,435 votes.
However, the PDP representative decline to sign the result, stating that the party has the plan to challenge the results of the election, there was no point signing it.
Prof. Jega who announced the result at about 3. 45 am on Wednesday morning, expressed gratitude to all Nigerians for the opportunity to serve the country and for coming out in large numbers during the just concluded Presidential election across the country.
He also expressed his and that of the Commission’s gratitude to both the permeant and adhoc staff of the commission for their selfless service and dedication towards the national assignment.
He particularly singled out members of the National Youth Service Corps for their invaluable contributions toward the success of the election.
