A fire outbreak has been reported at the Alaba International Market in the Ojo area of Lagos state.

Adeseye Margaret, director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the incident took place Friday afternoon.

She said the fire affected mainly the shanties used as shops in the popular market.

The fire service director said an angry mob prevented the firefighters from gaining access to the affected areas to quell the inferno.

She however said security operatives were on top of the situation.

Margaret added that the agency was collaborating with the security operatives to address the situation.

“Report reaching Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service indicates shops at the popular Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos are on fire,” the statement reads.

“However, Fire Crew from Ojo, Sari-Iganmu and Ajegunle are being turned back by angry mobs from performing their statutory duty but presently on standby.

“The agency is consequently collaborating with security agents to address it.”
