A section of the Canada high commission building in Abuja went on fire on Monday.

The cause of the fire is unclear at the moment but it was learnt that it started as a result of an explosion at the commission’s power generating plant.

Dark smoke could be seen billowing from the white building.

Staff have been evacuated from the building to safety.

The high commission is located at diplomatic drive in the central business district (CBD) of the federal capital territory (FCT).

It is a walking distance from the federal ministry of defence, popularly known as Ship House, and the high commissions of Ghana, UK, and the US.

There is no comment on the incident by the FCT fire service at the time of reporting.
